Lunar skylight mission original Astrobotic's Skylight mission explores a lunar pit that is a suspected skylight (entrance to a subsurface cave). A SPACEX Falcon 9 launches and performs trans-lunar injection. The spacecraft cruises for 4.5 days, orbits at 100KM, decends, and lands on the Moon 36 hours after local sunrise. A rover departs the lander to win the Google Lunar XPrize and explore the skylight, while the Griffin lander generates power and supports payload operations. During the night, Griffin and rover hibernate, then revive for several lunar days.
